News

25th of October, 2008:- While I was poking around my LMMS projects looking for a file to use with this Python test thingy I was making, I stumbled across a song that I completed and even rendered, but never uploaded. I gave the instrumentation a do-over, re-rendered it, and am going to upload it to MySpace and the end of Status Zero as "Period 6" (groan, another school-related name that has little to do with the song itself). Yes! Finally, another D-LINC song! I just hope that sooner or later I'll be able to move from LMMS to something fancier, though.

In other news, I got to hear Urban Desert performed by real people last Wednesday, in the school rock band project meet. I can't apologise enough to Pickers and Elliot for making such a boring and repetitive song and then expecting them to play the same thing over and over again for ages (especially the droning bass part)! I never wrote this stuff to be performed by anything other than a computer (or myself), and it shows. >_<

Also, while I'm at it... If you can, pick up a copy of Discarded Days's debut album, Journey. They're only selling locally and to friends, but nine people out of ten that visit this page will know them anyway, so yeah. (Apologies to those that don't, and thanks for visiting)

In closing, I realise that this is a long news item. Sorry. I'll shut up now. --Matt

11th of October, 2008:- Well, I stayed up until 4:20 trying to do a minor rehash of Pyramid A (bored and wanted to do something vaguely productive), but when I assembled the LMMS mix and drums in Audacity it sounded awful. So, once again, there has been no progress on the D-LINC field. Of course, I'll update this site when I DO do something... --Matt

25th of July, 2008:- Alright, I have my server back. It's now running glorious FreeBSD, so it should be extremely stable, etc, etc, blah, blah. I decided to take the opportunity to rewrite the about paragraphs to be less flowery, and, yes, I have finally realised that D-LINC has been inactive enough lately to enjoy somewhat of a "hiatus" status. I thoroughly intend to continue D-LINC, no matter what happens over the next year, or 10 years, or handful of reincarnation cycles... D-LINC is sleeping. And eventually it will awaken, maybe even with some half-decent music! --Matt

About D-LINC

D-LINC is a half-dead music project situated in Knaresborough, UK specialising presently in sequenced synthpop and electronica.

D-LINC, whose sole member as of July 2008 is Matt Windsor, was formed in late 2007 as "You Said Whatnot!", a MySpace account dedicated to the posting of music Matt made in LMMS. The name comes from the Revolution game "Beneath A Steel Sky" and refers to the lowest possible social status in the hierarchy of Union City.

The project is currently on indefinite semi-hiatus due to a general lack of drive, inspiration and MIDI cables. It is entirely Matt's intention to be back with a much better set of songs sometime in the near future, though. (The current set is a bit lacklustre in terms of composition, instrumentation and sound quality)

Influences

D-LINC is primarily influenced by the work of the legendary German electronic band Kraftwerk, but also officially counts the following among its influences:
